Blog Poll Update

Okay, so there has been some unusual voting patterns on my blog-poll recently.

It's partly my fault, as I left it open so that people were allowed to vote more than once, as I didn't expect people to take advantage of that system, and I wanted those who were torn between a couple of choices to be able to vote on both if they needed to. And also, to be honest, I was hoping it would get me a few extra votes and massage my ego a little as I was expecting quite a low vote turn-out.

But, in one day last week, one of the options on my poll went from being a distant third to a clear first, leading by about 25 votes. Meaning it got about 40 votes in one day (or less than 1 day), and suddenly had 55% of all votes that had been made on the poll.

Is that a clear indication of somebody “fixing” the poll? I don't know, there is the off chance that it's coincidence and that it just so happened that many people happened to read my blog/poll that day that all had similar opinions. However, that is unlikely. The fact that it got so few votes before that, and has got so few votes since then, would indicate some very suspicious voting patterns on that day, and any fixing or cheating of course ruins the fun of this poll for everybody. Unfortunately, I can't track who has voted and how many times they've voted.

This short blog entry is just to say three things...

Firstly, due to this, I am changing the rules of this poll challenge slightly. As I believe the winning entry has been (assuming it retains it's winning status) manipulated, but I cannot prove that so it would be wrong of me to disqualify that entry, the new rules of this poll is that the TWO highest voted entries will now be crowned joint winners. I will have the word “slut” written on me in each of those two places for three days each. All other rules and guidelines of the poll remain the same.

Secondly, I have now deactivated multiple voting from the same IP address. You can press vote as many times as you like now, but only your first vote will be counted.

And thirdly and finally, if somebody wants to confess to fixing my poll results, then I would be very grateful for your honesty. I'm not mad, you just took advantage of the system that I put in place, but if you'd like to send me a quick e-mail to confess and perhaps apologise or tell me why that particular option is so important to you, it would restore my faith in people! You can even message me anonymously by using my e-mail contact form, which I don't think requires an e-mail address, or at the very least doesn't require a truthful or valid e-mail address...

There's still a week or so to vote on my poll, if you haven't voted yet, or even if you just want to vote again as now the top two highest votes will win, so you can try and get your favourite into the top two. Hey, maybe the recent influx in votes to one particular option was real, so if it gets another 40 votes I can hang my head in shame for being accusatory today!!
